Lydia Matzourani

NIP- and SKJ-registered Psychologist

About:

I’m originally from Athens, Greece and moved to the Netherlands in 2017 to pursue my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology. My interest in psychology grew from my own experiences overcoming challenges early in life. Therapy helped me better understand myself and that journey inspired me to support others in finding their own paths. Now based in Utrecht and having worked with people from different backgrounds, I’m passionate about helping others navigate their struggles and find growth through genuine and trusting relationships.

As a NIP- and SKJ-registered psychologist with trainings in Schema-focused therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I support individuals dealing with stress, relationship difficulties or a general sense of feeling stuck. I also work with those navigating life transitions or searching for more meaning and direction in their lives. Much of my experience has been with teenagers and young adults, especially international students facing the challenges of studying and living abroad in the Netherlands. In addition to my clinical work, I’ve taught at university level, supporting students academically and in their personal development.

Approach:

My approach is based on empathy and the belief that growth happens in a safe, non-judgmental space. I place great value on the connection we build and the work we do in the here-and-now, as it’s through genuine connection and emotional safety that meaningful change can begin! I use an integrative approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), humanistic practices, ACT, and schema-focused work. Together, we might explore how early experiences have shaped unhelpful patterns, like feeling not good enough or fearing rejection, and gently work toward shifting them together. Existential psychology also holds a special place in my heart. As a child, I found myself drawn to questions about purpose, meaning, and what it means to live a good life and how much control we truly have over that. These reflections continue to guide my work today, often bringing depth and perspective into our sessions.

By combining different approaches, my aim is to create a safe and supportive space where you can show up as you are and move at a pace that feels right for you and your needs at that moment.
